I think most people only think of indoors when they consider a stair lift, but there is the outside of your house to consider also. Perhaps your house is higher than the rest of your plot, do you have steps to different sections of your garden?
Wherever there are steps to a person who is disabled in some way they are monumental. No way can they negotiate the steps. Perhaps their limbs are so stiff they cannot use the steps, or too painful, or a person could have a palsy of some sort and cannot control their limbs. All of these conditions and more make it so difficult if not impossible to be able to use stairs/steps indoors or outdoors.
I am reminded of a cartoon I saw years ago, there was a flight of stairs with a dalek [of Dr.Who fame] at the bottom saying ‘well thats buggered our plan to conquer the universe’! I think that probably says it all for a disabled person.
Why should a flight of stairs prevent a person from living a normal life? Why should they be stuck perhaps only using the lower level of their home when the stairs become a problem? Why should they never manage to enjoy the garden if it is stepped in any way? There is no real reason at all.
Of course I know that there will be a monetary consideration, but if your budget doesn’t stretch to a new model why not consider a reconditioned one. They are bound to be quite safe if you got it from a reputable supplier. They wouldn’t allow something unsafe to be sold to a disabled user, that would be so wrong.
It might be possible also if a person’s disability is chronic that their medicare may cover the cost. It is always worth asking, it doesn’t hurt to try.
There are many, many reputable suppliers of the outdoor stair lift equipment, and I am certain that you would get excellent service from all of them.
If you had considered a second-hand one to fit your budget I would be a little wary of buying from a private person. Not that the deal would be dodgy in any way, but you definitely wouldn’t get any sort of warranty as you would if you bought a legitimately reconditioned model from a bone fide supplier.
When you read testimonials for these appliances you can just imagine the joy they bring, the freedom and feeling of independence, plus the cessation of pain when going up or down stairs. Everything about the equipment is designed to bring about a change in the daily routine of a disabled person.
Whether you need the outdoor stair lift or an indoor stair lift because you are elderly and perhaps you haven’t the puff for mounting stairs anymore or you have a more pronounced reason for needing one the result is the same. Trouble free ascent and descent of stairs and the means whereby you can enjoy your home to the full, including the level about the ground level, or maybe higher than that if you had a stair lift that would take you up more than one flight.
Outdoor stair lifts are just as necessary for a person to enjoy their home and garden to the full for many more years to come.
