Some outdoor stair lifts are suitable for as much as 300 feet of travel. That is some distance!

The lift has all the functions of an indoor stair lift, and they include all the safety functions such as sensors for obstructions on the stair treads. Armrests seats and footrests that fold up out of place.

They are battery powered which is a good thing because you will never be without your outdoor ride, even in the middle of a power cut. This is especially useful if you live in an area where this happens regularly.

Some people have gardens that are terraced with different levels – this will be a nightmare for a person in a wheelchair, they simply will not be able to enjoy the garden at all, only view it from the topmost level.

A person may have rheumatoid arthritis and perhaps can walk on the flat but steps are a definite problem because of stiffness in the knee. A person with this problem would most definitely benefit from a stair lift probably both indoors and outdoors.

Metal parts can be made from aluminum, or zinc plated before they are powder coated. All plastic parts are heat and UV resistant and usually included with the outwood stair lift is a strong and durable plastic cover which will keep out most of the debris.

These outdoor lifts will probably carry between 250lbs and 350lbs in weight, so most people should find one suitable for their needs.

The lift will only take up a few inches from your outdoor stair width and when the seat is folded up it just takes 15.25″.

You will probably get wipe-clean upholstery for outdoors. Some have charge points for the battery at the top and also the bottom of the track. Some makers provide the ability to lock the lift so that it cannot be used by anyone other than the person for whom it was intended.

Some manufacturers provide hinged tracks so that if required they can be folded back when not in use.

There are different methods used for the propulsion of an outdoor stair lift but whichever one you choose you can be sure that the user will be absolutely safe, as long as proper use is made of the equipment i.e. safety belt’s fastened, armrests down and in place. If used properly there should be no problems at all.
