Houses are not shrines or monuments. It is best to change your environment to suit your needs. Think of a single-floor residence. Or, adapt one floor by adding a bathroom or other needed features.

Perhaps a small elevator would be much less expensive, take up less room and be more efficient. There are some I've seen that are very attractive and take up little space. Not complicated!
