Handicap Stair Lift

Handicap stair lifts have been around for some years now. Stair lifts provide a practical solution for people who are having accessibility problems in their homes. But, what really is it? A stair lift is a motorized chair connected to a track that is installed to the staircase. With this, one can easily go up and down the stairs without the trouble of falling, especially the handicaps and the aged. With just a push of a button, one is safely carried over stairs.

A stair lift can be folded compactly against the wall when not in use so, it should not be a problem if anyone from the family needs to carry huge stuffs up or down the stairs. By standard, stair lifts typically measure about 25 inches. Rails typically weight around 30 kg depends on the length. They are commonly attached to the steps with metal brackets.  The carriages are what carry anyone over stairs. They are pulled by cable or chain, or driven along the rail by a rack. They mostly come with arms and a footrest. Most stair lifts feature adjustable seat heights and soft, padded seats. Manufacturers go a long way in providing better quality stair lifts to suit the taste of every customer.

With this technology, disabled individuals do not need to put up with an immobilized lifestyle. In fact, they can involve themselves in household activities and go up and down the stairs without falling or injuring themselves. This is with the help of handicap stair lifts.

Stair lifts allows disabled persons to navigate their entire home with so much ease. Before these products were introduced, handicapped people find it almost impossible to climb one or two steps and most of the time cause them pain. It was very impossible that they could climb the entire set of stairs. Having handicap stair lifts in the house provide a disabled family member hope to enjoy the beauty of the entire home and to be able to make time for the family in stead of just staying in one place.

There different types of stair lifts: Straight rail stair lifts, curved, stair lifts, wheelchair platform lifts, outdoor stair lifts, pre-owned stair lifts and goods stair lifts.

Nowadays, stair lifts are powered by rechargeable batteries and use direct current. Most domestic rail stair lifts use a power rating of 250 watts. Power requirements depend on several factors such as load, steep incline and many others. Typical travel speed range between 0.15 meters per second and 0.15 meters per second. This speed should not be expected with curved stair lifts as speed may vary depend on the controls for the inclines and bends.

A stair lift's life can last up to twenty years with proper care and regular maintenance and manufacturer check up. Once a stair lift reached the end of its useful life, it cannot be repaired. It has to be immediately dismantled and disposed of as some of its parts are regarded as hazardous wastes when mixed together or with other substances. However, some metals may be economically recoverable and a few plastic items may be recycled.
